Beneath a canopy of crimson, a tree extends its exposed roots towards the lower edge of the work. Beside it, a reimagined Mona Lisa looks out from a richly layered world of gold ornament, coded letters, handwritten fragments and flowing paint. Her familiar image becomes part of a larger story of inheritance and renewal. Roots, branches and fragments of the past suggest a renaissance growing through what came before it, taking unexpected forms as it reaches towards the new.
